Division 01 | Intermediate

997 Sprinter

Class Concept

The 997 Sprinter Class is designed for intermediate drivers who have progressed beyond Sportsman racing but are not yet ready to compete at the Expert level due to experience, budget, or overall racing pace.

This class emphasizes affordable equipment, controlled power levels, consistency, and racecraft. Different motor allowances help compensate for differences in vehicle weight, drivetrain, and handling characteristics, allowing a variety of vehicles to compete together.

The goal is close, competitive racing where driving skill matters more than equipment cost.

Chassis

Any 1/10-scale off-road buggy or truck chassis meeting applicable ROAR chassis requirements.

2WD and 4WD vehicles permitted.

Minimum Weight

1,474 GRAMS

3.25 lbs minimum, race-ready.

Approved Motor Combinations

  • 2WD Buggies: Gravity RC USGT spec motor (30° timing) OR Hobbywing 21.5T fixed-timing motor.
  • 4WD Buggies: Motiv 17.5T Spec 10 motor.
  • 2WD & 4WD Trucks: Motiv 17.5T Spec 10 motor.
  • Vintage Buggies & Trucks: Pre-2000 chassis designs may run any brushed motor.

Motor timing: Spec brushless motors must retain their manufacturer's specified timing configuration.

The different motor allowances help maintain comparable performance between lighter modern buggies, heavier trucks, 4WD vehicles, and older vintage designs.

Electronic Speed Control

  • Any ESC operating in true Blinky (zero-timing) mode.
  • No boost or turbo timing.
  • Hobbywing Justock recommended for affordability.

Steering Servo

Any servo permitted.

Budget servos under $80 retail are strongly recommended.

Tires

Open tire selection.

Radio Equipment

Any transmitter and receiver combination permitted.

General Vehicle Requirements

  • Chassis protectors are mandatory.
  • Shock tower and exposed shock protection required.
  • Sharp edges must be sanded smooth.
  • Vehicles must be safe and comply with race director inspections.

Driver Eligibility

  • Designed for drivers who have progressed beyond Sportsman racing.
  • Drivers must demonstrate reasonable car control, consistency, and awareness of other racers.
  • Drivers consistently exceeding the class pace may be required to advance to Expert Sprinter or another appropriate division.
  • Final driver classification is at the discretion of race management.
SPRINTER PHILOSOPHY

Affordable equipment, controlled power, and great racing. Develop your driving skills and move up when you're ready.
